No sooner had the electrician left than a truck with 30 trees and
two strapping young landscapers, Rob and Shane, and piles of topsoil, bone meal, sheep manure and mulch pulled in the driveway! Let the digging begin...and it did ...and continued for 2 grueling days of dislodging rocks and roots from the new earthen homes for all the little saplings.
During that job, John Morrison (the boy with all the great toys) and assistant Benny, pulled in with the first of three loads of gravel for the driveway. This is a blue/gray limestone that is used here in lieu of paving (toooo much $$$ for the banker). Called quarter minus because it is 1/4 inch or less in size, becomes tightly packed after lots of driving on it.
I thought I'd like a larger "crunchier" gravel, which John in turn said "no problem" to..."but it'll all just end up on the grass" when he snow-blows in the winter...and then do it all again next spring! As it is the cost of this gravelsent the banker into a tizzy, but Jerome loves the result!
After two days of discovering muscles we had no idea that we owned (years at the gym didn't even find these ones!) lying prone on the front "lawn" admiring the results of our labour...up the drive came Doug(ie) and Brian the Barber.
These two missed their calling in their chosen career paths...the comedy routine between the two kept Jim and I laughing for an hour!
Course the multiple Moosehead may be a contributing factor!
This is out of focus...I was laughing toooo hard!
Just when we thought we'd get a day off to R&R, Thursday a little red pick-up loaded with lumber and drywall (known as sheet rock here) pulled up to the door with Steven and Robert ready and raring to get to work on the old lathe and plaster walls!....so off our butts to give them a hand!
Now we have both come to the conclusion that we're pretty much incapable of contributing more than cleaning up behind them and offering beer at the end of the day!
So while Jim took care of that duty (as well as he's usual look/learn and supervise)...I continued with the watering of saplings and shrubs (which is soooo much easier now that there is increased water pressure!) and mowing the grass around all these new little ol' additions. What was I thinking!
The TV room almost finished...do these guys work fast! Amazing what experience and good tools can do in a day!
Today will be more drywalling...next week? Can Rick the plumber be far behind!?
