Just Hangin' out...

...waiting on help to show up! The skylights arrived (left on the back deck while we were out!) so, as predicted the roofer now has everything to get started...probably next week when the electrician and furnace guys are here.
See, the problems with construction and reno is not so much making the decisions (difficult for the non-impulsive Jim) or even the cost (though he is fretting as a banker is wont to do) but rather the co-ordination of the project.
Yesterday, Irving guys called - their taking out the oil hot water heater on Monday 'cause we're now renting an electric one from NB Power (the other patron saint here) but NB Power won't put it in until the new 220 wire is installed...by the electrician who won't be here for...oh...1 or 2 weeks! So, after multiple phone calls to Irving, NBP and the electrician, Jim is now convinced that general contractors do have value to contribute to a project of even this minor magnitude!
Much politeness (staged) and begging (real), the electrician is coming on Sunday! to run the wire so we'll have hot water next week. Personally, I thought it would be yet another adventure in homesteading! We may have had to heat water for 2 weeks but at least we wouldn't have to haul it up from the brook! *there's still a lot of citification in that boy, as has been noted by is lack of jeans!*

This is Micky, our local general store owner & butcher, discussing the virtues of a good steak with Jim (& another customer). He's the one that gave us a ride home during a casual outing we took during a snow storm in January. Definitely a fine example of the local colour! Note the old store look...high ceilings with tin and creaky wooden floors. Selection and prices are o.k., given I don't have to drive into the city.

Ten things I like about St Martins (so far):
School buses pull over when you're behind them
Everyone is very nice and helpful
Life has a very different pace (slow and friendly)
LOTS of green - grass, trees, shrubs (but only in the spring and summer =(
Seeing the ever changing Bay of Fundy when I go to the village each day
Waving to passer-bys ...who wave back
rhododendrons!
that are impossible to grow in S. Ont.
Fields of Lupins...everywhere (but not in my field - for now)
The peace and quiet (except for Sunday motorcycles that love our road)
And...
a spring colt!

This is the new arrival at Kathi and Jim's farm of mini horses. Mama won't let me close enough to show his size - 1/2 of our Bijou! His name is Blue Moon because he has 2 blue eyes, a crescent-shaped blaze and his Mom usually has fillies...but in every...

One thing I don't like about NB...recycling...there is no pick up at the road...so it's self-serve only...and no glass?!

(Jim's waiting in the car, examining his multiple cuts and bruises)

So until next week, when with luck, there will be a flurry of activity!...
