Now for the details. The trip was originally booked for the week of Carnival in Mexico, but breaking an arm and requiring surgery left us to delay by almost 3 weeks. That decision in turn put another wrench in the works for our friends Steve and Nancy (who we were to stay with) - they had another family booked to stay that week, and it included a 6month baby ( and we know Jim and small children!) ...hmmm...we all decided that given the house had 5 bedrooms and an equal amount of bathrooms (this is important to the age group) we would proceed, and if issues arose, we'd head for a hotel.
So heading out for Ontario by car (Bijou can only be cared for by my parents in Forest!) the "perfect storm" is brewing - 3 storms are about to collide over the Great Lakes! Thus 18 hours later, and ready for a divorce (remember I can't drive with casted arm) we arrive at Kristen's in snow bound Milton. Saturday, my kids came to Milton to help me dye hair and paint nails and have a visit and supper.
Sunday to Forest - visit with my parents and settle the dog (who is more distressed? Jim or Bijou? - pick Jim!) But Jim is hit with Montezuma's revenge now?! yep! 24 hours of a stomach bug keeps him in bed.

I was seriously beginning to get the feeling that these are all omens.
Monday to Detroit where we have a hotel room and car park and shuttle to the airport. We'll be lucky to get a few hours sleep as we have to be at the airport at 0330 for a 0630 flight.
That flight at least went well - we both had 3 seats to stretch out and sleep - 'cause the day is goin' to be long:
4 hour flight, then 40 minute bus to downtown Cancun, followed by the most boring (good highway, absolutely nothing to see) 4 hour bus trip to Merida, met by Nancy and 30 minute bus to Progresso and a 10 minute cab to the house....Jim said "hi" to all then straight to bed for 12 hours.
The travel is long, but so worth it....a lively Mayan city on the Gulf side of the Yucatan and few tourists.
We ate, drank, toured and relaxed, made new friends, visited with old friends and had a really really good WARM time!

Back in Ontario we're greeted by spring-like weather so we spent the weekend with our kids, and did the shopping not available in NB
We have waaaay too much fun shopping!
...then a night in Montreal (more shopping) and only a 10 hour drive home. Kristen gave Jim an early b-day gift of a GPS - that talks for for the entire trip he kept exclaiming " I LOVE THIS THING!"
So it's warm here too and though I should be getting back to the land (others have already started tilling and planting) the arm is still restrictive in movement so gardening may be at a minimum this summer.
